Leszek Zadlo, born in Krakow, though being among the saxophone players that confessingly refer to John Coltrane, has developed a very personal musical language full of contrasts.
He has worked with nurnerous renowned bands and musicians of the jazz scene, such as Elvin Jones (Jazzmachine), the ORF-, NDR-, WDR-Bigband, Thad Jones Bigband, Slide Hampton Bigband, the RIAS Symphony Orchestra, European Jazz Ouintet, Experimenti Berlin and Overtone Orchestra.
In 1972 the musician founded his own formation (Leszek Zadlo Ensemble) and the Polski Jazz Ensemble in 1983. Moreover Leszek Zadlo was appointed leader of the European Art Orchestra in 1999. For over 20 years Leszek Zadlo has been working together with Claus Bantzer. One of the results of this fruitful cooperation was the improvisation CD " Illumination" for ARTE NOVA.
Besides his performances at prestigious festivals and lots of recordings for radio, TV, and more than 70 LP/CDs, Zadlo has also become known as a composer of stage and film music.
He has been teaching saxophone and flute since 1986 at the jazz department of the Music Conservatory in Würzburg and since 1991 at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. At the Music Conservatory in Würzburg he was nominated a Professor in 2003 und moreover he is acting as the chairman of the Gesellschaft zur Förderung der deutsch-polnischen Verständigung e.V. in Munich.
